Overview
Self-harm is the act of intentionally hurting oneself as a way of coping with overwhelming emotional pain and difficult emotions. It is generally not an attempt to end one's life, but is a sign that someone is struggling and deserves compassion and support. Recovery is possible, and reaching out to a trusted person or professional is an important first step. If you, or someone you know, is going through suicidal ideation, or considering suicide, please call 988 or text 'HOME' to 741741.
This toolkit includes safety planning tools, safer alternatives, distraction ideas, and people you can reach right now. Telling someone is not "making it a big deal." It's taking care of yourself, and you're worth that.
